Class Description

Carborundum aquatint is a painterly intaglio process which gives an intaglio print a wide tonal range. This process differs from traditional aquatint which uses rosin and acid, and sine we will be printing with soy based Akua and Caligo Safe Wash inks, no solvents are needed, and the studio environment will be fume free. In addition, water soluble crayons will be used to add color to the carborundum texture which prints on dampened paper. Anthony Kirk, in a long career as a master printer, has introduced this technique to artists such as Joan Mitchell and Emily Mason. Materials needed by participants. Mat board or thin Plexiglas approx. 1/16th in. thick. For multi plate color printing participants should bring two or three plates. Several yards of tulle – a synthetic wiping fabric. Polymer medium either gloss or matte. Brushes Paper towels Printmaking paper such as Rives BFK, Arches Cover, Magnani Pescia, or Fabriano. Cancellation Policy

STUDENT CLASS CANCELLATION If a student must drop out of a class, 75% of tuition will be refunded as long as MGC is notified 15 days or more prior to the start date of the class. If a student notifies MGC less than 15 days prior, no tuition can be refunded. Membership and materials fee are non-refundable.
