GOLD LEAF
GOLD LEAF
with Bill Gauthier
Class Description
Gilding for printmakers is a custom designed class for printmakers who want to use genuine gold and silver leaf in the printing process. The class will focus on two phases: pre-printing and post printing. We will use genuine leaf, metal leaf mica, and metallic powders. The student does not need gilding experience or special tools to work with the techniques in the class. This class can accommodate most printmaking techniques. Please bring examples of your work and a prepared statement on how you envision using gilding in your printed work. Also bring the master plates of the images that you want to use as well as paper and printing ink. This is a hands-on class: we will be preparing paper and printing images on the first day. The instructor will provide detailed printed notes of all the techniques that will be demonstrated. *includes 7 hours of open workshop time Instructor Bio: Bill Gauthier is a NYC based gilder with 42 years of experience. Bill had designed this class especially for Manhattan Graphics Center in the 1990’s. There are examples of his gilding work all over New York City: the Maine Monument in Columbus Circle is one example. To view his work, visit on Instagram: Gilding NYC INC.
